A municipal development plan (MDP) is a ‘road map’ that helps determine the desired long-term direction for a community. The Town’s previous MDP was created in 1998 and consolidated in 2007. The planning process has now been completed, and the new MDP report - imagineINNISFAIL has been approved by council, replacing the 1998 plan.
A Municipal Development Plan (MDP) provides direction to municipalities for future growth and development by ensuring it is sustainable, orderly, appropriate, complementary, and efficient, and that it enhances the quality of life of its residents. It is a key policy plan that communicates the long-term desired land use for our community.
The MDP is primarily a policy document that can be utilized as a framework within which both public and private sector decision making can occur. As a policy document it is, for the most part, general in nature and long range in its outlook.
Innisfail has changed in the 24 years since the current MDP document was adopted, and it will continue to change. A new MDP is to be created that must be dynamic and responsive to the whirlwinds of change facing this community. Creating a new MDP is about instituting a new long-range vision for our community to plan for the community’s growth and changes.
imagineINNISFAIL begins with Chapters 1 & 2, which build the background for the document. Chapters 3 to 6 lay out the Municipal Development Plan policies and the implementation plan. Maps referred to within each chapter are organized at the end of the document.
